With Archive Sitting[1] I started my research on busy social environment as a place for meditation. Having no particular meditation technique on hand, I did the performance intuitively guiding myself through various emotions and feelings that arose during the Sitting. Public meditation is a known phenomena, widely practiced and effective. Though, in a middle of an art fair rush it is a bit of a rebel act. Having in mind that you‘re the only one gallery representative in a booth, who‘s supposed to interact with the visitors. This time, the interaction was a bit unsuspected, therefore, a little strange for some.

Now, before starting the Transcendental Meditation technique lessons, I make a goal to research the mechanics of this technique and turn it in an artistic practice. Transcendental meditation is known for its easy 20mins 2 times-a day practises and it‘s effectiveness. It is one of the most scentificaly researched meditation techniques, proven to be highly effective of lessening stress and boosting creativity, together with emotional intellect. „The TM technique allows your mind to easily settle inward, through quieter levels of thought, until you experience the most silent and peaceful level of your own awareness — pure consciousness.“[2]

My task here, as mentioned above, is to reflect the workings of this technique as well as the results of the practice. To put it to public spaces and reseach how the meditation works there.

Research plan:

Learning stage: Work in seclusion . Recording of the realisations and thoughts.

Research stage: Public meditating. Filming meditation practice and public reactions. Livestreaming meditation (advanced). Records of the realisations, thoughts and changing results of the practice.

In this project the artist becomes a research object, the lab rat, the research is based on observing own mind and reactions in social environment. I have a task to record the realisations, the consciousness growth, the reflections and to share the experience with my social environment.

Research starts on 10th of June 2019 with my first lesson of TM.
